Interesting People and Places–Chapter 1

Rain Protection!! (1)
These Canadians are really resourceful! This family borrowed the company boom truck to suspend their shelter.
Not a bad idea, I have been looking on Craig’s List……

In an effort to get the blog up to date, we will use this post to briefly tell you about some interesting, unique people and places we have experienced so far.
Chetwynd, British Columbia – Chainsaw Sculptures
We laid over in Dawson Creek and took a 200 mile tour of the countryside. With many rivers and lakes and rich with oil, gas and forestry industries the area seems quite progressive. The remote town of Chetwynd was the highlight of our drive. It is the home of the Chetwynd International Chainsawing Carving Competition. Carvers from around the world compete in the event. There are over 100 sculptures on display around town. And they are truly amazing! We had a great time strolling around to see the wide variety carving. Take a look at these:

Fort Nelson, BC – Heritage Museum
We are not normally “museum people”, but this one was our kind of place. It is an eclectic collection of history and displays from the nearby countryside. The founder, Marl Brown, is there every day. We had a chance to talk with him and he is quite an inspiration.
